Move Sideways to Progress Like a Crab

Writer's picture: Contributing WriterContributing Writer

Crabs don’t bother with the whole “walk in a straight line toward success” thing. They zigzag, sidestep, and take the long way around like they have all the time in the world. And guess what? They still get where they need to go. Crabs move sideways to progress. Meanwhile, humans exhaust themselves sprinting toward some imaginary finish line, panicking at the first sign of a detour.

Here’s a radical idea: maybe life isn’t a straight path. Maybe that “setback” you’re agonizing over is just a strategic sidestep. Crabs don’t waste time questioning whether they should be moving differently. They just go. No existential crises, no endless replays of past mistakes, no performance reviews. Just movement.

Of course, if you’d rather cling to the idea that forward is the only acceptable direction, by all means, keep exhausting yourself. But when you inevitably hit a wall, don’t be surprised if the best way around it isn’t through brute force, but a well-timed sidestep. Crabs figured this out ages ago. Maybe it’s time we catch up.
