The Great Halloween Candy Caper
When my kids were growing up, Halloween was a big deal. Over the top home decorating, massive parties and community events and of course the mountain of candy yielded from trick-or-treating.
To keep our kids' sugar levels in control and our kids' dentist not busy, we implemented The Great Halloween Candy Caper.
This clever parenting technique is a fun and imaginative way to encourage kids to share or give up some of their Halloween candy stash without feeling like they’re losing out.
The "caper" can take on various forms, like involving a “candy tax,” a trade for a non-candy reward, or a story-based game where kids can “protect” or “trade” candy as part of a mysterious adventure.
Parents often get creative, turning the event into a game where kids can “sacrifice” certain candy to a “Candy Goblin” or other friendly character who “needs” the candy to stay happy. The whole idea is to make it fun and interactive, so kids feel they’re part of an exciting story rather than just having their candy taken away.
It’s a creative approach to help kids moderate their candy intake and practice sharing while keeping the Halloween spirit alive!
