VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

APPROACH & MORE ABOUT ME

I specialize in work with folks whose lives are touched by adoption. I work with adopted adults and first parents who are in the process of searching or reuniting. I work with young adopted children and their families, and I work with any dyads from the adoption constellation that are trying to find their way through some of the difficulties of relationship and connection in adoption.

In general at the onset of therapy, I meet clients where they are and work with energy and effort to help them create the change they want in their lives.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

I have had a variety of professional experiences including doing child assessments, working as family/child therapist at a residential treatment center, working on a forensics unit at a state hospital, and over 2 decades in private practice. I am in the process of becoming certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and I am also completing my EMDR training.

I also enjoy speaking professionally and I have spoken nationally and locally on parenting issues, the developing brain, and the developing self of the adopted person. I have given presentations to elementary children about self-regulation and the brain.

Volunteer work is important to me. Over my career I have been board president of the Austin Psychoanalytic and Adoption Knowledge Affiliates. I have currently turned my personal and professional interest in all members of the adoption constellation into advocacy work, and I am board president of a Texas organization (Support Texas Adoptee Rights) working to give adopted adults access to their original birth certificates.
